Not far from Valencia there are a number of worthwhile and colourful destinations that can complement our stay in the city:
The Requena-Utiel wine-producing districts with their inland, continental terrain, contrast with the area around Fontanar dels Alforins, which is totally Mediterranean; in both districts we can savour wines with true character, often with limited production at family-run cellars or bodegas. It is possible to enjoy guided tours conducted by the proud vineyard owners themselves.
Towns seeped in history such as Peñíscola which saw the end of the western Papal Schism, Bocairent, with interesting dwellings cut into a stone ridge in the style of Capadocia, Sagunto, the Roman city which withstood Hannibal’s onslaught, Morella, with its impressive medieval ramparts or Xàtiva, where the Borgia Popes were born.
Cities such as Alicante with its imposing castle commanding the port and offering views along the coastline or Elx, with the largest palm-grove in Europe and declared a UNESCO world-heritage site.
Destinations offering pristine beaches such as the picturesque town of Denia, the exclusive coastal enclave of Moraira or cosmopolitan Benidorm.
Coastal destinations that enjoy an ideal climate for the practice of nautical activities and a special light to relax by the Mediterranean Sea.
